Everyone wants the cheapest plumber, until the cheap fix has to be done twice. Here's how plumbing prices work, and how to keep yours down without gambling.

How plumbers price their work
- Service call or trip fee: what it costs for someone to come out and look. Some apply it to the repair; some don't.
- Hourly: you pay for time plus parts. The final number isn't known until the job is done.
- Upfront (flat-rate) pricing: the plumber diagnoses the problem and quotes a total price for the job before starting.
- After-hours: some companies charge more for nights, weekends and holidays. Ask.
Why the cheapest quote can cost more
- Unlicensed work. No license means no Arizona Recovery Fund protection and often no permit. See how to know if a plumber is good.
- Fixing the symptom, not the cause. Snaking a line that needs hydro jetting is cheaper today, and you pay again next month.
- Cheap parts. A bargain supply line or valve can be the thing that floods the house later.
- A low number on the phone, then a different price on site. Ask how the price is set before anyone comes out.
How OX prices it
Our $99 service call covers the visit, the diagnosis and an upfront price. If you approve the work, the $99 goes toward the repair. Nothing starts until you say yes. Many estimates are free; for a major job or a longer drive the visit cost can be different, and we'll always confirm it with you first. More on how our $99 service call works. Our work comes with a 1-year workmanship warranty.
How to keep your plumbing bill down
- Call early. A drip is cheaper than a leak; a slow drain is cheaper than a backup.
- Know where your shutoff is so a leak doesn't turn into water damage: how to shut off your water.
- Ask about offers. We run deals like $99 drain cleaning (main line, accessible cleanout, residential only). See the coupons page.
- Ask about financing on bigger jobs like a water heater or repipe: we offer Wisetack, subject to credit approval.
- Keep up with maintenance. Flushing a water heater and treating hard water prevent bigger repairs. See plumbing maintenance.
The real question
Not "who's cheapest?" but "who will fix it right the first time, at a price I know before they start?" That's the cheapest plumber in the end.
