What to Do in the First Five Minutes

Call us at the number on this page. While you wait, these steps limit the damage:
- Burst pipe or water leak: close your home's main shut-off valve. It's usually where the water line enters the house, often near the front hose bib or in the garage. Many homes also have a valve in the water meter box near the street.
- Leaking water heater: close the cold-water valve on top of the heater, then turn the gas control to off (or switch off the breaker for an electric heater).
- Sewage coming up a drain: stop running water and flushing anywhere in the house. Every drain feeds the same sewer line.
- You smell gas: leave the house first, then call Southwest Gas at (877) 860-6020 or 911 from outside. Don't switch lights or appliances on or off. Once the utility has made it safe, we repair gas lines.
- Water near outlets or the electrical panel: stay out of the water. Turn power off only if you can reach the panel without standing in it.

Is It Yours or the Town's?

Some emergencies belong to the Town of Gilbert, and calling the right number first saves time.
- Water spraying from the street or sidewalk, or sewage overflowing from a manhole: call the Town. Gilbert's Wastewater Division handles sewer blockages, overflows, odors, and suspected pipeline breaks. Public Works answers at 480-503-6400, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Fridays and after hours, Gilbert sends water and sewer emergencies through Police Dispatch at 480-503-6500.
- Leaks inside the house, behind walls, or under the slab; a backed-up toilet or drain; a failed water heater or valve: that is usually private plumbing, and that is us.
Not sure which it is? Call us and describe what you see. We'll tell you whether to call the Town first.
Common Gilbert Emergencies

Most Gilbert homes are newer than the rest of the East Valley: the U.S. Census puts the median build year at 2003. That also means many homes still have their original water heaters, supply lines, and shut-off valves, now around 20 years old or more.
Gilbert's 2025 water quality report lists hardness up to 17.5 grains per gallon. Scale and sediment wear on water heaters, valves, and fixture connections, and a water heater leaking at the base of the tank can't be repaired, only replaced.
Emergency calls we handle in Gilbert:
- Burst and leaking pipes, including slab leaks we locate before opening anything
- Main-line and drain backups, cleared with drain cleaning and checked with a camera inspection
- Leaking or failed water heaters (see water heater repair in Gilbert)
- Toilet overflows and burst supply lines
- Main shut-off and pressure-reducing valves that won't close or have failed
- Gas line repairs after Southwest Gas has made the line safe
What Happens When You Call

We'll ask what's happening, help you stop the water if it's still running, and tell you when a licensed plumber can get there.
Every visit starts with a $99 service call: we diagnose the problem and give you an upfront price before any work begins. If you approve the work, the $99 goes toward the repair.
For everything else in town, see plumbing in Gilbert or our emergency plumbing page.
